"Come, help me pick." I looked up and she handed me a bowl. Off to the garden we went to stoop and peer under leaves, delicately plucking tiny scarlet berries. I love current jelly and my sister is growing them with the hope of one day having enough to make some. It takes 7 quarts to make one batch, so, this is going to take years, even though she now has 3 bushes. She picks them a bowl at a time, washes and freezes them. I have fond memories of picking currents and gooseberries at my aunt's place. She sold out years ago, I hope the new owners didn't pull those old bushes out.

Your sister is amazing. She and people like her are the only hope this planet has. If anyone can save us, it will be the farmers.
I like currents to, but have not been able to pick enough to turn to jelly yet. Just wanted to say how thrilled I am to have found your site (again)! Last summer, a friend had given me a Queen Ann's Lace jelly recipe that she'd found on-line. The jelly came out spectacular and people raved! Just today, a friend was asking me for the recipe. All I could remember was "murmuring trees" I googled it and- here I am! I copied the link for her, then strolled around. I love your entries here- so full of nature and the simple way of things :) Next recipe I'm trying? Homemade Kahlua!!!
