My World- Baku

Hi Lady, Want to Buy a Carpet?

A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to Baku for 2 weeks. My hotel was in the Icheri Sheher, the Inner City, very close to the Maiden Tower. As I went back and forth to work, I walked past many, many carpet shops. This is one of them. Azerbaijan has been famed for its carpets since antiquity. I never grew tired of seeing them. There were carpets hanging over railings, in windows and lying flat on the ground.

I carefully avoided walking on the neatly placed carpets set end to end in the street only to find out that is exactly what the shop owners wanted. It added value. I sorta regret not buying one, they were beautiful.

That's really interesting. Love the photos especially the last one showing that people actually walked on the carpets. I would have walked around them too.

Those carpets look great but the sellers might be a bit tiring.

I think I would regret that as well. Amazingly beautiful.

I do that too - be practical and then regret what I didn't buy. The carpets are lovely, and who would have thought that walking on them would add value?

I could not possibly have resisted buying a whole stack of them! They are truly beautiful. So much of a person's life goes into knotting just one carpet let alone all those you photographed.
Lovely post.

Such a different part of the world to most of us. Fascinating it is too.

Wonderful pics! I bought a carpet several years ago at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Was with some friends. We spent most of the afternoon in the shop, sipping apple tea and trying to make up our minds. The owner encouraged walking, as he spread out carpet after carpet in his shop. I carried my prize back on the plane and it's now in our entryway. It makes me happy everytime I walk on it. - Pam
